Step 1 Pre-reading activity ( 3’ )

1. Lead-in

T: What do you think of Jiu Zhai Gou scenic spot?

(Wonderful! Fairy tales! Magic! Mysterious!)

What about the English explanation? (Good! Beautiful! Fluently…)

Would you like to go traveling? So it is the same with me.

Today we’ll take up a new lesson Lesson 14 a travel diary.

2. Picture-talking

T: First, please look at the picture carefully.

What can you see in the picture?

What are they doing?

Ss: We can see many trees, a river, a boat, a hill and six people…

Five people on the top of the hill are having a rest. They’re talking about something.

Only one person near them is cooking meal.

T: Yes, you are right. The five people are travelers. The man who is cooking supper is

the guide. But where did they go? How did they travel? Let’s come to the text.

Step 2 Preparation for reading ( 20’ )

1First-reading

Look and listen to the text. After that, please find out the answers to the following questions.

1) Where did they go? (A great forest in South America)

2) How did they travel, by air or by boat? (By boat)

3) What does the writer never eat? (Monkeys)

4) What did the writer want to do? (Go swimming)

5) What sad sight did they see? (A great fire and lots of smoke)

2. Second-reading

Find some key words, the main idea of each part and then get the general idea.

T: Now you see, they are on their travels in a great forest river. It is the famous Amazon River

in South America, you know? Then, what did they see? What did they hear? How are they

feeling in the forest? Let’s read the text again. After that, you will be asked to find some key

words, the main idea of each part and then get a general idea. Now let’s have a competition.

The whole class will be divided into 7 groups, i.e.Group A, B, C , D, E, F & G. This time

Group A is the judge group. Try to finish it as quickly as possible. If you have finished,

just go back to your seat. Are you clear?

1. Retell the text according to the key words above.

2. Finish the reading comprehensive questions.

T: There are four questions. Please discuss in groups. Four students a group.

So from the text, every one of us should realize it is necessary and important for us to protect the

forest, protect the environment and keep the balance of nature. To save the earth is to save ourselves!

2. Homework

1) Try to say something more about what can we do to protect the environment? next class.

2) Write a short passage on the forest traveling within 100 words in your own exercises.

3) Try to solve the language problems in the text.
