Teaching aims:

Help the students

l speak out some new words about first aid.

l find out the main idea of each paragraph .

l answer questions about the text .

act out first aid with what they have learned from the text.

Teaching focuses:

1. To be able to find out the main idea of each paragraph in a few words.

2. To be able to answer questions about first aid.

3. To be able to act out first aid with what they have learned from the text.

Teaching preparations:

1. Act out the new dialogue about seeing a doctor.

2. Spell new words about first aid.

Study of the theme:

Instruct Ss to study by themselves with their task, train Ss’ ability of reading comprehension by leading-reading-practicing.

Teaching steps:

Step 1 Pre-reading

1. Show pictures about accidents, make sure that Ss know what they will do.

2. Lead-in

In our everyday life, many things will happen suddenly, such as the accidents in the picture. When you see the word “accidents”, what will you think of?

Brainstorming about accidents.

Lead Ss to the topic: First Aid

Step 2 First reading

Books open.

1. Go through T/ F questions quickly and make sure Ss know what their task is.

1) Anyone can give first aid to save somebody’s life.

2) If you know something about first aid, you can deal with some common injuries.

3) You can put some oil on the skin if it is burned.

4) All snake bites are treated in the same way.

5) A little bleeding can be a good thing.

6) If a person has something stuck in his throat, it is not advisable to get it out.

2. Read the whole passage quickly and silently. Just get the main idea. Then answer the T/F questions.

Step 5 Practice

So now we have learned some knowledge about first aid. Let’s have a practice. I give you the situation.

A sports meet is being held in our school. Your classmates are having a relay race. Suddenly one of the runners falls down and can’t move. One of the legs is bleeding. You and your classmates come to help.

Please use the knowledge we’ve learned to give him first aid. Discuss it with your group or your partner and act out.
